Description

NGC 4631, also known as the Whale Galaxy a barred Spiral Galaxy. Located 30 million light-years distant in constellation Canes. Here, a profusion of blue star-birth lights up the galactic center, revealing bands of dark material between the starburst and us. The galaxy’s activity tapers off in its outer regions where there are fewer stars and less dust, but these are still punctuated by pockets of star formation.
